"Coastal Life Is FUN!"
On Memorial Day weekend, Coastal Life Delaware released the single “Coastal Life is Fun” written, produced, and performed by Delaware native Rory Sullivan. The song embraces the laidback lifestyle of Southern Delaware and greets it with easy melodies and a relaxing guitar instrumentation.
Influenced by the likes of James Taylor, Ryan Adams, and John Mayer, Sullivan is an
acoustic folk singer/songwriter now residing in Los Angeles. That long distance from home inspired Sullivan to revisit his favorite DE beach memories on “Coastal Life is Fun.”
“I grew up in Delaware so I knew all the landmarks, and [I] love the beach so it’s easy to write about things you love,” Rory Sullivan
The “fluid” writing process for the new single allowed the Newark native to relive his favorite memories and the joy from visiting the shore’s renowned attractions.
The tune name-checks everything from Dewey Beach and The Starboard, Rehoboth Beach, and King’s ice cream in Lewes. Sullivan recalls when his family “used to vacation a lot in Lewes and going into town for ice cream at Kings would be the perfect cap to the evening.” In fact, the whole town of Lewes triggers fond memories. “It’s such a lovely place, with the cobblestone streets, nice restaurants, and quaint charm,” Sullivan said.
Rooting the lyrics in recognizable and cherished establishments like this allows the listeners to experience the “coastal life” for themselves, whether that stems from their own memories or imagining potential future vacations. Either way, the instantly hummable chorus will have listeners confidently singing “everyday is a paradise” along as the summer season begins.
Prior resident Lucy Mullins agreed and shared her love for the track, saying “It’s a feel good song that reminds me of the beach,” noting that her family “had a place there several years ago!” For Mullins the song sets a tone for a “relaxing and carefree [stay] at the shore.”
“Our goal, by teaming up with Rory, was to deliver a song that lets locals and vacationers alike sit back and remember everything that makes this place is so great.” Cory Mayo – Founder of Coastal Life Delaware
As a local of Southern Delaware myself, I have been replaying the song to welcome the summer season with open arms. “Coastal Life is Fun” not only rings true in its lyrical nostalgia, but also rivals Jimmy Buffett in its laidback summer vibe.
“I used to play at many venues at the Southern Delaware, like The Starboard and Rusty Rudder for the Pop Festival,” noted Rory. His journey from these local hangouts have taken him to NYC, Chicago, New Orleans, and now Los Angeles where he is writing new material to release as an EP in the coming year.
For now, be sure to listen, download, and share the single .
